Me and Nazareth When somebody asks me how I feel in this School as a foreigner, I don’t really know what to answer. Yes, I am a foreigner – I was born and have lived in Lithuania for around twelve years before moving to Warsaw, but the problem is, I don’t feel like a foreigner at all. I came to Poland and this School four years ago. Of course, the beginnings were hard – I understood Polish, but I wasn’t too keen on speaking, not to mention the fact that I have never written a single word in that language. Fortunately, with the help of my friends, I adjusted to my new school without unnecessary pains. The school I used to go to was very different from Nazareth – it was a co-educational school, we didn’t have uniforms, grades for behavior and the classes were twice as big. I was so absorbed by all these changes; I didn’t really notice the different language! Now, I don’t see any disparities between me and Polish students. It often comes in handy, being a foreigner, especially when you need to look at something from a different perspective on history lessons. But other than that, I feel just as special as every other student. The Nazareth School just gives you a sense of belonging and being a part of a big, multi-cultural and multi-national family. Nazareth and me Life as a foreigner can be quite difficult at times, so it's essential to live in an environment that understands your needs and feelings. Life in Nazareth School is exactly like that. The teachers are willing to go all the way, in order to help you out, as long as they see you giving your best shot, at everything you do. What I like the most about the teachers is the fact that, they are ready to compromise, if you give them a reason good enough to do so. Atmosphere in homerooms are even better! Everyone is very helpful and patient. If you don't understand something you can count on your classmates, to take their time and explain the topic to you thoroughly, until everything is crystal clear! What's great about this is that they do it based on their own desire to help out, not just because they were told to do so. We stand up for each other, when problems arise and believe in teamwork success. What is more, we believe that everyone has a right to their own opinion and we respect them even if they are very different from our own. Nazareth respect students, who have different cultural backgrounds and are of different religions. No one would ever ask you to change your religion or beliefs, just to match those of the School! These qualities help you feel like you belong and that you're not an outsider! Sonia, India |
